ALEVEL MEDIA COURSEWORK

FIRST YEAR

In the first year of college for my media A-Level I had to create an idea for a film. As I enjoy watching young adult, indie style films I decided to design a film in this genre called Strings. I created a DVD cover for the film on Adobe Photoshop, being challenging for me as I was still learning the basics of the software. It was time-consuming but earned me a grade A for my coursework.

After creating the Strings DVD Cover for my media course, I created a poster to go with it. I found this a lot less difficult as the images were repeated from the cover, just arranged differently.

I created a script for my film too using the computer software Celtx. I hadn’t had the opportunity to create a project like this before, and so I found it interesting and fun to do. I only created the first ten pages, although if I was to do this professionally I would write more. Click on the PDF button to view the script.

SECOND YEAR

As part of my A-level media course in college it was required to do a research project accompanied by four creative projects for second year coursework. I chose the topic of representations of women in video games, a subject that intrigued me despite not being a gamer. I used popular games character Lara Croft for a case study of my project, and in turn created my own character based on her called Sarah Sparks.

I created two games covers for my fictional game Sarah Sparks using Adobe Photoshop, one aiming to be more sexualised than the other.

The first games cover focuses on the characters appearance, making her seem desirable to the audience. On the other hand, the second games cover focuses on the characters ability to fight and presents her as more powerful.  I found these a challenge to create as most of the images used are my own; the knives are made from a picture of a kitchen knife that I heavily edited for example.

I created posters to go alongside the Sarah Sparks Games Covers I designed.  Again much like before, the first is more sexualised while the second focuses on the power and ability of the character more.
